AEO platforms monitor brand mentions and citations in AI answers and may identify technical issues, content gaps, or inconsistent brand information. Their recommendations do not guarantee improved mentions, recommendations, or citations.
Monitoring and optimization are different jobs. A dashboard can establish a baseline, while content and technical tools can help teams act on findings. Changes should be assessed through repeated monitoring; a schema recommendation or an outreach draft is not evidence of citation growth.
Quick answer
- Integrated SEO and AEO option: SE Ranking Core starts at US$103.20/month annually and includes 100 daily tracked prompts. The optional AI Search add-on adds US$71.20/month annually; the combined cost is US$174.40/month.
- Best budget: Airefs - $29/month, or $24/month billed annually
- Entity implementation: WordLift Business+ costs US$879/month annually or US$1,100/month with monthly billing. Large-scale visibility research: Ahrefs Brand Radar uses search-demand-derived prompts; its displayed euro prices are locale-specific.
Evaluation methodology
This comparison covers eleven AEO platforms using published product documentation, advertised pricing, engine coverage, citation analysis, optimization capabilities, and documented limitations. It is a research-based comparison, not independent performance testing or a measured overall ranking.
Evaluation criteria include monitoring methodology, source attribution, supported engines, usable costs, trial limits, and remediation tools. Dollar prices are US dollars; euro-denominated prices are identified separately. Confirm billing terms, seats, domains, prompt capacity, and optional credits before purchase.
The previously associated goodie.ai domain displays a domain-for-sale listing rather than an operating software website. Product availability cannot be established through that domain alone; a domain sale does not prove that a company ceased operating. Similarly, an inaccessible website does not establish discontinuation. Ahrefs remains a separately branded product on its official website.
This is a selected comparison rather than an exhaustive list. Other products, including Peec AI, may also suit a monitoring workflow.

The 11 platforms, reviewed
SE Ranking
SE Ranking combines AI visibility tracking with a broader SEO suite.
That architecture is the whole argument. When the gap report says ChatGPT keeps citing a competitor for “best project management tool for agencies”, the same account already holds the keyword research, the content brief, the optimisation checklist and the rank tracker. Nothing gets exported, re-keyed or re-explained to a second vendor.
The subscription page lists Core at US$103.20/month annually or US$129 monthly, including 100 prompts tracked daily, five trackable LLMs, and AI visibility research. Growth includes 250 daily prompts. The optional AI Search add-on starts at US$71.20/month annually or US$89 monthly, giving a combined Core-plus-add-on cost of US$174.40 or US$218/month respectively. The add-on expands capability; it is not required for the included Core tracking. Confirm the selected add-on configuration and capacity. A 14-day trial is offered without a card.
Limitation: tracking does not itself publish content or implement site changes. Results can vary by location, prompt wording, platform updates, and sampling. Confirm how data is collected and refreshed rather than assuming a particular UI or API collection method.
Airefs
Airefs combines AI visibility monitoring with content generation and outreach preparation.
Airefs identifies sources cited in tracked answers and prepares articles, discussion replies, and outreach drafts. Recommendations require editorial review, and third-party placement or successful inclusion is not guaranteed. Published plans include different prompt, domain, seat, and article allowances.
The tier ladder is Lite at $29 monthly ($288/year, $24/month annual) with 25 prompts, one domain, one seat and one article a month; Pro at $59 monthly ($49 annual) with 60 prompts, three domains, three articles and MCP server access; Expert at $99 monthly ($83 annual) with unlimited domains, 150 prompts, six articles and a dedicated AEO strategist. Google AI Overview tracking is a separate add-on at $10 to $30 per month depending on tier, and extra articles are $7 each. A seven-day trial is offered.
Limitation: prompt tracking is ChatGPT-led, and Google AI Overviews is paywalled behind the add-on, so your base price understates what full coverage costs. Extra domains and seats scale fast for agencies. And you are buying machine-written articles - which raises the editorial quality question that no vendor in this category will address first.
Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI offers an entry monitoring configuration, at $29 per month with a Lite tier that does not require you to buy credits.
The ladder is Lite $29 for 15 prompts, Standard $189 for 100, Premium $489 for 400, plus custom Enterprise. Annual billing drops the first three to $25, $160 and $422. Every tier covers four engines - ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot - with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini sold as paid add-ons. That structure is exactly why Lite is cheap and Standard is not.
An AirOps comparison reports a G2 snapshot of 4.8/5 across 54 reviews; ratings and review counts change. What matters more for this article is who those reviewers are: a vendor-published AirOps comparison of G2 reviewer composition shows roughly 62% small business and 38% mid-market, with zero enterprise reviewers. Read that rating as a small-team verdict, not a procurement one.
Limitation: 15 prompts is demo-sized. Cover a real category and you jump to $189, at which point you should be comparing RankScale or SE Ranking on features rather than price. It is also a watcher. Nothing it surfaces gets fixed inside the product.
Profound
Profound supports enterprise AI visibility analysis and content workflows.
Its public pricing page advertises a free seven-day trial with 50 prompts monitored daily across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise pricing is customized, with support for up to nine answer engines. Previously reported US$99 Starter and US$399 Growth tiers are not current public purchase quotes and should not be used for budgeting without vendor confirmation.
Limitation: request a quotation identifying engines, monitoring frequency, seats, agent functionality, usage limits, and contractual commitments. Trial coverage does not establish the allowances in a purchased Enterprise configuration.
Semrush
Semrush combines visibility tracking, competitor research, prompt analysis, and an AI-readiness site audit.
Semrush has quietly repackaged this as a standalone product rather than a bolt-on. Its own AI Visibility Toolkit pricing page lists a Base plan at $99 per month per domain, billed annually - as advertised on the vendor’s pricing page. What sits inside that price is worth listing: AI visibility reports for any domain, 25 custom prompts tracked with daily AI rankings, Brand Performance analysis for one domain, mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, AI competitor analysis and prompt research, a site audit for AI readiness, and daily, weekly and monthly data updates. Additional users start at $45 per month. Enterprise is quoted individually.
The remediation capability is real and under-marketed. There is a prompt research layer that finds which questions trigger mentions and citations in your category, a competitor layer that surfaces the prompts and sources where rivals appear and you do not, and - the bit that matters most - an AI search health audit inside Site Audit that checks whether AI bots can actually reach your content and flags technical barriers. It also scores page readiness and recommends content fixes. The base plan covers four engines - ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity - with 25 tracked prompts a day. Semrush’s wider Enterprise AIO pitch extends coverage and adds Claude, DeepSeek and Grok across 38 countries and 28 languages.
Limitation, and it is partly a transparency problem: the price itself checks out, but the surrounding descriptions do not. Third-party roundups variously claim the toolkit requires a base Semrush subscription, that it has been folded into the main SEO tiers, and that it covers Copilot and AI Mode on self-serve. Semrush’s own pricing page describes none of those - it presents a standalone per-domain product covering four engines. Separately, 25 daily prompts across those four engines is a thin sample for anything beyond a single category, and there is no Claude on the base plan. Get the current engine list in writing before you sign.
HubSpot AEO
HubSpot separates a free one-time AI Search Grader from ongoing AEO monitoring, starting at US$50/month or US$45/month with annual billing.
The free AI Search Grader provides a one-time assessment across GPT-5.4 mini, Perplexity, and Gemini. Its weighted dimensions are sentiment (40 points), presence quality (20), brand recognition (20), share of voice (10), and market competition (10). This diagnostic is a snapshot, not an ongoing statistically representative citation-rate measurement. The separate HubSpot AEO subscription includes 25 tracked prompts across three AI platforms.
The paid tier covers the same three engines with brand visibility, prompt tracking, citation analysis, sentiment scored from −100 to +100, and prioritised recommendations. It also sits on top of HubSpot’s own content tooling and CRM, so prompts can be suggested from your customer segments rather than from a generic industry list.
Limitation: three engines is narrow, and there is no Claude, Copilot, Grok or AI Mode. Independent reviewers also flag setup patience: expect roughly a day for first data and several weeks before optimisation changes register, because answer engines update gradually. Treat the product’s own performance claims as marketing until you have your own baseline.
Scrunch AI
Scrunch combines AI visibility monitoring with website auditing and agent-access tools.
The pricing page lists Starter at US$250/month with annual billing, including 350 custom prompts, three user licenses, and five page audits. Growth starts at US$417/month annually, with 700 custom prompts, five users, and ten page audits. Enterprise uses custom pricing and limits, with additional security and integration capabilities.
Advertised coverage includes Claude and Gemini; the former Core and Agency Core descriptions should not be used to infer current engine restrictions. Scrunch also advertises crawler analytics and an Agent Experience Platform.
Limitation: confirm the engine list, audit cadence, technical implementation work, and Enterprise-only features for the selected contract. Monitoring or delivering a machine-readable site version does not guarantee citation growth.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar is an option for large-scale AI visibility research with a published sampling methodology.
Brand Radar tracks mentions, citations, share of voice, and sentiment across supported AI surfaces. Ahrefs describes more than 470 million search-demand-derived prompts, constructed from search queries, related questions, and semantic expansion. This is not a direct sample of private conversations with AI assistants.
Pricing is where people get caught, so read carefully, because Ahrefs sells this two different ways and in two different currencies. The Brand Radar page lists Custom Prompts starting at €47/month and the AI Visibility Index starting at €179/month, while the main Ahrefs pricing page quotes its own plan ladder in dollars. Custom Prompts is included free on every paid Ahrefs plan from Lite upward - Lite gets 5 daily prompts, Standard 10, Advanced 20, rising to 2,500 checks a month on Enterprise - so an existing paid subscriber should check their included allowance first. The metering is fiddly: each prompt costs one check per platform, per location, per update, which is why 5 prompts on one platform equals 150 checks a month, and Claude burns eight checks per update.
The published methodology explains how search queries become prompts and how results are collected and modeled. Different AI surfaces have different coverage. This supports evaluating the dataset for research; it does not establish that Ahrefs ranks first overall or measures actual audience exposure.
Limitation, and the caveat is about what the numbers mean: Ahrefs publishes a limitations section that buyers can evaluate. It states that coverage is strongest in English and non-English markets are represented only proportionally; that it does not filter hallucinated or malformed links out of its corpus, on the grounds that they are real model output; that it does not estimate actual AI usage by country; and that its “Estimated Impressions” metric is an explicit modelling choice rather than a measured relationship. Most importantly, it says plainly that Brand Radar is not a substitute for audience measurement - think of it as a media-visibility audit, not a count of who saw you. Share-of-voice estimates should not be treated as traffic or audience measurements.
WordLift
WordLift is the entity-and-knowledge-graph option: it builds the machine-readable picture of your company that every downstream AI system tries to assemble anyway.
The offering is Knowledge Graph work, schema markup and data integration tools, markup optimisation, a structured data audit tool, and what it calls an AI Audit for the agentic web. Pricing is $879 per month billed yearly, or $1,100 month-to-month, on a Business+ plan, with Enterprise quoted separately. It is an Italian company operating out of Rome.
WordLift Business+ includes knowledge graph development, AI-powered content creation, WordLift Agent, optimization tools, and guided implementation. It therefore belongs in the implementation category, rather than among monitoring-only products.
Limitation: implementation needs and costs should be scoped before subscribing. Schema markup should not be promoted as a guaranteed citation-growth tactic, and findings about already-cited pages do not resolve its value for discovery or other use cases.
LLMrefs
LLMrefs combines citation monitoring with a crawlability checker, Reddit thread finder, and llms.txt generator.
That combination matters because it reflects where the work actually is. If an AI crawler cannot read your pages, monitoring your citation rate is measuring a ceiling you set yourself. LLMrefs checks that directly, then points you at the discussions and threads worth joining.
Pricing is a single All-in-One plan at $79 per month marked as a limited-time price, including 500 prompts across all engines, unlimited projects and seats, and geo-targeting across more than 50 countries and 20-plus languages. There is a seven-day trial and a free account you can keep.
Limitation: US$79/month is advertised as a limited-time offer; confirm renewal pricing. Its 500-prompt allowance is shared across projects, but unlimited team members are advertised, so it is not inherently a solo-user product.
RankScale
RankScale starts at US$20/month, but the Essentials subscription alone does not establish a usable monitoring budget.
The pricing matrix lists zero included monitoring credits on Essentials. Calculate required credits and dashboard capacity for the actual prompt, engine, location, and refresh workload before treating it as a budget alternative. Higher tiers and credit packages should be evaluated using the current calculator.
The engine coverage is the standout. RankScale tracks more than 17 engines including Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok alongside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Few platforms at any price go past the big three. Consumption runs on a credit model at roughly a quarter-credit per engine query, with unused credits rolling over. Beyond monitoring it offers citation analysis, page audits, and Scout, a recommendation engine that suggests actions from the gaps it finds.
Limitation: the credit model makes real spend hard to predict, and the recommendation layer is newer and less documented than the monitoring layer. Expect to do more interpretation yourself than with SE Ranking or Semrush.
Do AEO tools work, or are they just dashboards?
Monitoring establishes a baseline; optimization features help teams act on it. Airefs prepares content and outreach, Profound advertises content workflows, and Scrunch offers site and agent-access tools. WordLift focuses on knowledge graphs, content optimization, and implementation. LLMrefs combines monitoring with optimization utilities. Semrush, SE Ranking, Ahrefs, and HubSpot offer analysis and recommendations, while Otterly emphasizes monitoring.
These categories overlap and features vary by plan. A recommendation is not an implemented change, and an implemented change is not evidence of improved citations. Evaluate a defined workflow with repeated measurements and record the content or technical changes made.
Citation rates depend on sampling methodology
Tracked citation rates describe a selected prompt set, engines, locations, and observation period. AI answers can vary across runs, accounts, wording, and platform updates, so different dashboards need not agree.
Ask how often prompts are repeated, which models and surfaces are queried, how locations and account states are handled, and whether changes exceed observed variability. Ahrefs publishes methodology and limitations; documentation from other vendors should be assessed individually. Ratings and review counts describe a different evidence base and are not proof of citation accuracy.
What may improve AI search visibility
An Ahrefs study published in May 2026 examined 1,885 pages that added JSON-LD using matched comparison groups. It found no meaningful citation uplift for pages already receiving substantial AI visibility. This does not establish whether schema affects discovery, understanding, or performance for previously uncited pages, different schema types, or longer observation periods.
The study supports rejecting guaranteed citation-growth claims for schema, rather than removing structured data from every strategy. Google also states that no special schema is required for its AI search features.
Practical work includes answering relevant customer questions, checking crawler access, keeping company and product information consistent, and evaluating the sources appearing in tracked answers. None of these actions guarantees inclusion. Third-party outreach requires editorial review and offers no assured placement.
Use official OpenAI crawler documentation and Perplexity crawler documentation when configuring access. Search crawlers, training crawlers, and user-triggered fetches have different purposes. A successful fetch does not itself guarantee indexing or citation. Structured company information can use the schema.org Organization vocabulary, but any citation effect should be measured separately.
Who should skip buying this
A paid platform may add little value if AI visibility does not inform a business decision or if nobody can act on the findings. Establish a repeatable baseline using representative buying questions, named engines, locations, and saved results before expanding spend.
For a small monitoring pilot, Otterly advertises Lite at US$29/month with limited prompts. RankScale Essentials at US$20/month includes no monitoring credits, so it is not a complete cost comparison. Airefs starts at US$29/month or US$24/month annually, with separate coverage and content allowances. Choose the smallest configuration that supports the required workload, then evaluate changes without assuming causation from a single movement.
