ChatGPT visibility software is any tool that repeatedly runs your brand’s prompts through ChatGPT and reports whether - and where - you appeared in the answers. That last clause is where most vendors are vague, and where the buying decision actually lives.

Quick answer

  • Enterprise monitoring: Profound - seven-day trial; Enterprise pricing by quote.
  • Low-cost starting point: Otterly.AI - Lite starts at $29/month for 15 prompts; extra engines can cost more.
  • Existing SEO workflows: Semrush - standalone AI Visibility Toolkit at $99/month, with 25 tracked prompts; Semrush One bundles offer larger allowances.

How these tools were evaluated

This comparison uses official pricing, product documentation and published methodology to examine 15 selected platforms. It compares prompt allowances, engine coverage, raw-answer access, citation tracking, competitor reporting and billing conditions. It is a documentation review, not a hands-on accuracy benchmark or an exhaustive count of active vendors.

An unavailable URL or unreadable pricing page does not establish that a company has closed. Scrunch remains available at scrunch.com, including under Sitecore ownership. Relixir is an active additional candidate offering Rex and GEO monitoring and optimization; it is outside this selected 15-tool comparison. Search Party and Zenli require further identity verification before recommendation. Ahrefs Brand Radar remains an Ahrefs product; Letaido is separate, not a rename of Ahrefs.

The buying questions are concrete: which consumer or API surface is queried, how often each prompt runs, what locale and session state are used, whether model changes are recorded, and whether raw answers can be exported. Mentions and citations should be reported separately, and competitor comparisons should use the same runs. Prices below reflect the reviewed vendor material; confirm currency, billing term, taxes and current entitlements before purchase. Vendor research is identified as such rather than treated as independent validation.

The 15 tools, reviewed

Profound

Profound is an enterprise AI search platform that now sells monitoring as one module inside a broader “AI Marketer” product. It is the most interesting tool on this list not for its dashboard but for one specific engineering decision.

That decision is chart annotation. Profound’s October 2026 changelog entry states that Answer Engine model changes are added automatically to charts. Model-change annotations help readers interpret shifts in the time series.

What that tells you is the company understands the core problem. Your visibility number is partly a function of which model answered. Mixing answers from different model versions without an annotation can obscure a change in the measurement conditions.

Pricing is now unusual. The pricing page offers a free Trial - 50 unique prompts run daily for 7 days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, one language, one region, no data history, no exports, no API - and then jumps straight to Enterprise, priced custom, covering up to nine answer engines including Perplexity, AI Mode, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude and Exa Search. There is no mid-tier self-serve product any more.

The honest limitation: you cannot buy Profound and try it properly without a sales conversation. The trial runs 50 prompts daily for a week on a recommended prompt set you cannot customise. That is enough to see the shape of the data, not enough to judge accuracy against your own manual checks.

Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI offers AI search monitoring with a low entry price. Its FAQ explains why a personalized manual chat can differ from a standardized monitoring session. Fixed locale and session conditions make comparisons more reproducible; they do not establish that the sample represents every buyer.

The Lite plan starts at $29/month for 15 prompts, with ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode are paid additions rather than all included in that headline price. API and MCP access depend on the plan. The seven-day trial requires no card.

Compare the total for the engines and exports you need, not just the cheapest plan. Vendor user counts are marketing figures, not an accuracy benchmark.

Peec AI

Peec AI specializes in AI search analytics for marketing teams. Its documentation covers prompt monitoring, source analysis and ChatGPT visibility, and its changelog discusses model handling. It is not a social publishing or scheduling platform.

Published pricing material lists Starter $95/month for 50 prompts, Pro $245 for 150 and Advanced $495 for 350. Each includes three models; Advanced increases the prompt allowance rather than automatically adding more models. Confirm the billing term, selected models, additional-engine charges and current trial at checkout.

The relevant tradeoff is prompt capacity and reporting depth. A quote-only Enterprise offer does not mean all Peec pricing is hidden.

Scrunch AI

Scrunch remains an active AI visibility platform under Sitecore ownership, with self-serve pricing at scrunch.com. A failure at an older domain is not evidence of shutdown or withdrawal of standalone access.

Its Starter plan is $250/month equivalent when billed annually, or $300/month on monthly billing, with 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts and three users. A seven-day trial requires no card.

Scrunch’s 2026 survey of 600 marketers is vendor research. It can inform questions about the category, but it is not an independent assessment of Scrunch’s measurement accuracy. Compare its allowances and workflow against the staffing available to use the data.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking offers a ChatGPT-specific tracker and a broader AI Search Toolkit. The ChatGPT Visibility Tracker reports brand mentions, links, competitors and cited sources, with country and language segmentation. Do not apply that page’s scope to the entire toolkit.

The broader AI offering covers multiple surfaces including Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity, with sentiment and other features depending on the product and plan. API and MCP access also need an entitlement check.

The reviewed euro pricing view lists an AI Search add-on from €63.20/month on annual billing, in addition to a required base subscription. Currency and configuration matter; this is not a standalone $30 subscription. Capturing real UI answers still produces a sample of responses.

Semrush

Semrush sells AI visibility both as a standalone toolkit and within Semrush One bundles. An existing SEO workflow may make the reporting convenient, but procurement suitability and value depend on the buyer.

The standalone AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99/month, with one project/domain and 25 tracked prompts. Semrush One Starter, Pro+ and Advanced include 50, 100 and 200 prompts respectively. The standalone toolkit has no free trial. Additional domains and sub-user licenses cost extra; confirm billing alignment if adding it to an annual subscription.

Brand Performance reports include sentiment-related analysis. Check each report’s engine coverage, location and refresh schedule rather than assuming every report uses the same dataset.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs separates custom prompt monitoring from its broader AI Visibility Index. The Custom Prompts offer starts at $50/month for 2,500 checks. The AI Visibility Index starts at $199/month; existing paid subscriptions may include some capacity. These are different products and should not share an unqualified starting price. Confirm current trial and renewal terms.

The methodology explains its use of public web interfaces and estimated rather than observed impression volumes. Read the scope for the specific dataset being purchased. Ahrefs’ citation studies use its own data: useful vendor research, not independent validation of its collection accuracy.

Check whether the chosen package supplies the custom ChatGPT prompts, raw answers and history needed for your use case.

Nightwatch

Nightwatch combines rank tracking with AI visibility and citation analysis. Its AI tracking page describes monitoring across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity and relating citations to source pages and search rankings.

The reviewed Starter offer is €79/month on annual billing with 50 AI prompts included, plus a 14-day trial. AI tracking is not necessarily an extra paid module; check allowances when comparing tiers.

Search ranks and citation patterns can help investigate a change. Their association alone cannot establish whether a lost citation was caused by a content change or a Google ranking change.

Writesonic

Writesonic connects AI visibility monitoring to a content and GEO workflow. Its Starter plan starts at $79/month billed annually, with ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews monitoring and sentiment features.

Action Center capabilities depend on higher plans, including Growth and Enterprise; wider engine coverage is also plan-dependent. Do not attribute every advertised automation feature to Starter. A trial should not be described as an ongoing free monitoring plan.

Evaluate its measurement method and raw-answer access alongside the content actions. Content generation alone does not establish either the quality or weakness of its monitoring.

LLMrefs

LLMrefs uses keyword-focused monitoring and aggregates repeated responses. It distinguishes ChatGPT from ChatGPT Search in its tracked engine definitions. Aggregation does not by itself establish statistical significance; request the assumptions and weighting method.

That ChatGPT / ChatGPT Search split is the most ChatGPT-specific decision in this roundup. They are genuinely different surfaces with different retrieval behaviour and different citation patterns, and folding them together destroys information.

LLMrefs describes weighted aggregation and at least weekly keyword updates, with vendor-stated geographic and language coverage. Ask how it handles correlated responses and uncertainty. Its claims about statistical significance are methodology claims to evaluate, not independent proof.

Pricing is $79/month for the All in One plan covering 500 prompts across all engines, with unlimited domains, projects and seats, plus a 7-day free trial. Vendor-reported user count is 10,000+.

Limitation: the “Limited time only” framing on that $79 price suggests introductory pricing. Get the renewal rate in writing.

Rankability

Rankability is an agency-focused AI SEO platform whose defining feature is unlimited client workspaces on every paid tier, starting at $97/month. It is built for the person managing fifteen small clients, not one large brand.

Its pricing page is unusually specific and is worth reading as a model of honest packaging. Three tiers - Starter $97, Agency $297, Agency Pro $497 - each with unlimited clients and unlimited team members, API and MCP access, and agency-branded reports. Annual billing is $970 / $2,970 / $4,970.

The important detail for a ChatGPT buyer: tracked AI query allowances are 100 / 300 / 500, and daily monitoring runs across 11 platforms - ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, Brave AI, DeepSeek and Meta AI - with identical coverage on every paid tier.

Critically, Rankability is explicit that allowances are shared across clients. “Unlimited clients” does not mean unlimited usage. Only one AI query across its platforms consumes one slot, so a 25-client roster needs 25 slots minimum.

Limitation: allowances share across the whole account, which punishes agencies with many small clients.

Knowatoa

Knowatoa is a low-cost GEO tool that publishes its sampling assumptions instead of hiding them. Rare in this category, and the reason it earns a slot.

That transparency matters more than its feature count. When a vendor tells you how it runs prompts, you can reason about whether the method fits your question. When it does not, you are trusting a black box with a number you’ll put in a client report.

Entry pricing starts around $59/month with a trial available, putting it in the accessible tier alongside Otterly.AI for small teams testing whether ChatGPT visibility matters to them at all.

Limitation: evaluate data retention, export access and continuity terms before relying on a specialist vendor for historical reporting.

ZipTie

ZipTie is an AI visibility product with reporting dashboards, not just collection infrastructure. It tracks brand mentions, citations, sentiment and competitors across supported surfaces.

Its usage pricing is approximately $0.01 per prompt-engine check. Costs depend on the engines and refresh frequency selected. The seven-day trial includes 25 daily prompts across three surfaces; it is not an unlimited free plan.

Estimate checks as prompts multiplied by engines and scheduled runs, then verify any minimum purchase or package conditions. Inspect raw responses and sentiment labels during the trial.

Brandlight

Brandlight positions its AI visibility platform for enterprise brands, with mention, sentiment, source and technical crawler reporting. Pricing is by quote.

The vendor states SOC 2 Type II compliance. Ask for the report and confirm the entity, product scope, audit period and exceptions rather than treating a website badge as a complete security assessment.

Its public descriptions of large-scale questioning do not alone specify a reproducible sampling frame. Request run counts, engine and locale coverage, raw-answer access and retention terms.

Surfer

Surfer’s AI Search Analytics is a dedicated monitoring option linked to its content workflow. Official documentation lists 50 prompts refreshed daily at $95/month, or $82/month equivalent on annual billing.

Broader Surfer content plans can bundle different prompt allowances and refresh schedules. Compare the standalone analytics offer with the specific bundle rather than assuming all Surfer customers receive the same monitoring.

The product documents prompt-level monitoring. A page that failed to render cannot justify calling the feature unverifiable or recommending against it. Assess engine coverage, exports and response sampling during evaluation.

What ChatGPT visibility software can and cannot tell you

It can tell you what a repeated sample said, and it cannot tell you what your customers are actually seeing. Every metric in this category is a sampled estimate of a distribution that varies by person, session, locale and model version.

What it genuinely gives you:

  • Whether your brand appears for a prompt you defined, across repeated runs.
  • Which URLs get cited when it does.
  • How your share compares to named competitors on the same sampling frame.
  • Direction over time, at meaningful sample sizes.

What it does not give you:

  • What a specific customer sees. ChatGPT personalises heavily.
  • Actual impression volume. Estimated volume is a model, not a count.
  • Traffic driven by ChatGPT. That lives in your analytics, not here.
  • Certainty. Sampling uncertainty needs to be assessed; a valid confidence interval depends on the sampling design and statistical assumptions.

The distinction that trips people up: mention and citation are different outcomes. Being named in ChatGPT’s prose costs you nothing and is not the same as earning a clickable source link. Several tools here track only the former.

How to write prompts that reflect how customers actually ask

Most weak ChatGPT visibility setups fail on the prompts, not the platform. You can hire the most statistically rigorous tool available and still track twelve questions nobody types.

Real buyers do not search “best project management software comparison table 2026”. They ask ChatGPT “what’s a good project management tool for a remote team of 12 that has to integrate with Slack”. The second prompt tells you something. It names a team size, a constraint, and an integration - which is exactly the specificity that surfaces or suppresses your brand.

What works:

  • Write prompts from customer questions. Build the library from sales conversations, support tickets and community discussions. Keyword-based systems may generate prompts, so inspect those prompts for relevance rather than assuming keywords alone represent buyer behavior.
  • Vary the constraint, not just the noun. “Best CRM”, “best CRM for a nonprofit”, and “best CRM that integrates with Mailchimp” will return different brands. Tracking only the first tells you about a market you may not be in.
  • Include the disqualifiers. Ask about the category you want to win, but also add prompts where you should lose. If you are never absent, your prompt set is too narrow to be informative.
  • Keep a fixed core set and a rotating set. Preserve a core for comparisons, but document necessary revisions and establish a new baseline when the questions change. Rotate a separate set to test new angles.
  • Expect fan-out. When ChatGPT searches, it expands your question into related sub-queries - a mechanism Google has also publicly documented as query fan-out. Ahrefs’ research shows why this matters: AI answers increasingly draw on results for expanded queries rather than the original one. Profound surfaces these expanded queries in its prompt tooling.

The payoff is a prompt library that produces a stable, comparable time series instead of a number that swings because you rewrote the question on Tuesday.

How ChatGPT referral traffic actually shows up

Referral analytics measures clicks; visibility tracking measures sampled answers. A brand mention without a click leaves no visit in analytics, so the two metrics cannot substitute for each other.

GA4’s AI Assistant channel groups recognized assistant referrals. Inspect session source/medium as well, because missing or stripped referrers can prevent attribution. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode are excluded from this channel and may be reported under Organic Search.

Server logs can help diagnose crawler access. OpenAI distinguishes OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and ChatGPT-User: search discovery, training and user-initiated retrieval have different roles. Missing recent OAI-SearchBot requests do not disprove a citation. Earlier crawling, cached or indexed material, intermediary fetches and incomplete log retention can explain the gap. Blocking the search crawler can limit discovery; it does not make every historical or observed mention impossible.

Review traffic, conversions, source URLs and crawler diagnostics together, while keeping their denominators separate.

The sampling problem behind every number

AI visibility metrics describe responses collected under a specific sampling design. Run count, prompt selection, engine version, surface, session state and locale all affect the result.

One weekly response per prompt provides limited evidence about variability. Daily collection provides more observations, but correlated runs and a narrow prompt set can still bias the result. There is no universal cadence or run count that guarantees reliable conclusions.

Standardized sessions improve repeatability. Personalized sessions may differ because of memory and context, but neutral sessions are not automatically more representative of commercial buyers. Match the monitoring frame to the audience and document what it excludes.

Aggregation alone does not establish statistical significance. Ask how repeated observations, prompt weighting, dependence and uncertainty are handled. Retain historical observations when models change, annotate the release and assess whether the series remains comparable before resetting a baseline.

Buying signals: how to tell a serious tool from a dashboard

Ask for the run count per prompt, queried surface, locale, session conditions, model-change handling and raw response exports. Confirm that citations and mentions are separate and competitor metrics use the same runs. Verify engine add-ons, refresh schedules and data retention before comparing prices.

Treat impression estimates as estimates and ask for their denominator. Review crawler access as a discovery diagnostic, not proof that a dashboard must be wrong. Request evidence behind sentiment and accuracy claims rather than relying on badges or vendor surveys.

What to do with the data once you have it

Export cited URLs, segment results by buyer intent and inspect sustained changes in raw answers. Compare visibility with referral traffic and conversions, without assuming more mentions must immediately produce more visits. Annotate model and prompt changes and retain history. Route inaccurate descriptions or missing information to the teams that can correct content and documentation.

Who should skip this category entirely

Delay a paid subscription if there is little evidence your buyers use AI assistants for research, if a manual baseline meets your needs, or if nobody can act on the findings. Low referral traffic alone does not prove buyers never see AI mentions.

Start with a limited trial and a documented prompt set drawn from customer questions. Use discrepancies between manual and vendor results to investigate session, surface and sampling differences. Upgrade when the additional coverage and workflow justify the cost.
