An AI presentation generator is software that drafts the outline, writes the slide copy, applies layout and theme rules, and exports a finished deck - turning a brief, a prompt or an uploaded document into something you can present, usually in minutes.

Quick answer

  • Rapid drafting: Gamma has a free tier with 400 signup credits and 10 slides per prompt; Plus costs US$9/seat/month billed annually.
  • Free entry: Canva and Presentations.AI offer free plans, with feature-specific limits. Paid plans should be compared on the required operations and exports rather than headline prices alone.
  • PowerPoint workflows: Microsoft 365 Copilot costs US$30/user/month billed annually, plus a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. Plus AI is an add-in alternative; Team supports branding, while advanced custom presentation templates require Enterprise; limited Team import is documented for Google Slides.

Evaluation methodology

This research-based comparison considers nine tools with documented AI presentation capabilities, using vendor pricing and feature documentation. Independent hands-on generation, export-fidelity testing, and accessibility conformance testing were not conducted. Dollar comparisons use US currency; regional prices, taxes, billing terms, and account configurations may differ.

Tome’s official notice states that Tome Slides shut down on April 30, 2025, with subscriptions canceled by March 31 and access to stored presentations ending after April 30. It is excluded from current recommendations. Former users should no longer expect their old presentation libraries to be accessible. A failed page request alone would not establish a shutdown. Prezi’s pricing was not established in the original research, which is a verification limitation rather than proof of discontinuation.

Evaluation covers draft generation, brand customization versus actual template support, export availability, documented chart handling, licensing, accessibility checks, collaboration, and seat or credit costs. Pi and Perceptis publish competing products and disclose commercial interests; their comparisons are useful secondary observations, not neutral independent benchmarks or evidence of universal export failures.

The 9 tools, reviewed

Gamma

Gamma is a web-first generator that builds decks, documents, websites and social posts from a prompt, then exports them to PowerPoint, PDF, PNG or Google Slides.

Gamma is the tool most people mean when they say AI presentation generator, and on raw speed it earns the reputation. The pricing page is unusually honest about what each tier actually changes, which made it easy to check. Free gives you 400 credits at signup and generates up to 10 slides per prompt. Plus is $9 per seat per month billed annually ($108 per seat per year) for 1,000 monthly credits, up to 100 slides per prompt, removal of Gamma branding, and access to more advanced AI image models. Pro at $18 per seat per month ($216 annually) adds 4,000 credits, premium image models, custom branding, detailed analytics, 10 custom domains and API access. Ultra is $90 per seat per month ($1,080 annually) with 20,000 credits and the most advanced text, image and video models.

On templates, Gamma’s story is themes and themes-with-custom-branding rather than importing your existing corporate template. Custom branding and custom domains sit at Pro and above, not at Plus. That is the single most important limitation for corporate buyers, and it is a pricing-tier decision rather than a capability gap.

Gamma supports PowerPoint, PDF, PNG, and Google Slides export, including on Free. Export availability makes the feature easy to evaluate before subscribing, but does not establish visual or structural accuracy in the resulting file.

Gamma’s published capabilities and pricing can be documented; commercial usage rights require separate assessment against its current terms. Those rights were not established in the original research, and an inaccessible terms page should not be treated as a licensing conclusion.

The honest limitation is the same one the two vendor-published comparative reviews land on. Gamma’s editing model is genuinely new rather than familiar, which is fast when you accept its opinion and irritating when you don’t. One tester describes generated content as sometimes inconsistent and verbose, requiring real editing before it is presentable. Treat Gamma as a first-draft engine, not a finisher.

Microsoft PowerPoint Copilot

Copilot in PowerPoint is Microsoft’s in-application assistant that drafts a deck, rewrites slides and builds new ones inside PowerPoint itself, using your own templates and Brand Kit.

Copilot is an option for organizations with eligible Microsoft licensing. Microsoft sells Microsoft 365 Copilot at $30.00 per user/month paid yearly, and the same page notes that the product requires a separate qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription. That footnote matters enormously: $30 is not your seat cost, it is the increment on top of an Office licence you probably already pay for. If you have the base licence, the marginal cost is genuinely competitive with anything on this list. If you do not, you are buying two products.

Microsoft’s own documentation on keeping presentations on brand describes Copilot interpreting the request, looking at sample slides, and selecting layouts from your template. That is the brand story in one sentence, and it makes the existing template a source for supported layouts.

Copilot creates and edits presentations natively in PowerPoint, eliminating a cross-platform export step. The resulting file still requires checks for fonts, layout quality, accessibility, and compatibility with other PowerPoint environments.

The limitation is depth of craft. Copilot is very good at first drafts and competent at restyling, and it does not have the layout intelligence of a design-first tool. It also inherits Office’s accessibility tooling rather than exceeding it. And the vendor-funded time-savings claims attached to Copilot are enormous and almost entirely unattributed.

Google Slides Gemini

Gemini in Google Slides is the Google-native assistant that drafts, rewrites, summarises and images slides inside Slides, with the ability to reference your Drive files as it writes.

Google’s support documentation lists image generation, new-slide generation, summarization, writing and rewriting, and references to Drive files. This can support drafting from existing source material, but generated claims and charts still require review.

Gemini-generated slides remain editable within Google Slides. Exporting to PowerPoint involves format conversion and may require checking fonts, animations, layouts, and other design elements. Feature access depends on the eligible Google plan; a current subscription price was not established in this comparison.

The limitation is scope. Gemini in Slides is strongest on drafting and rewriting and weakest on anything that smells like designed visual storytelling. Roundup testing also flags the natural risk of research-first workflows: generated charts are first drafts, not finished analysis, and the person who commissioned them still has to know whether the numbers are right.

Plus AI

Plus AI is an add-in that brings generation, editing and remix to PowerPoint and Google Slides, so the AI runs inside the presentation app you already use rather than in a separate editor.

Plus AI works through extensions or add-ins for PowerPoint and Google Slides, avoiding a separate editor but requiring installation and setup. Native editing does not guarantee flawless layout or format conversion when moving between apps. Published prices are Basic US$10/user/month annually (US$15 monthly), Pro US$20 (US$25), Team US$30 (US$40), and Max US$200 (US$240). The listed trial lasts seven days with 1,000 AI credits; confirm current allowances.

Plus AI Team supports logos, colors, fonts, shared presets, and AI instructions. The pricing FAQ directs organizations needing their actual slides and slide masters to Enterprise. However, the official help guide and sales FAQ also describe limited Team-plan custom-template import in Google Slides: beta support for up to 25 slides, excluding advanced elements such as charts, tables, and diagrams. These pages have different levels of detail; confirm the required host app, template complexity, and entitlement before purchase. The branding documentation and pricing FAQ should be checked against the required house template before purchase.

Remix - reformatting existing slides into new layouts - is the underrated part. It lets you take a deck someone else made badly and restyle it without rebuilding it.

Plus AI’s commercial usage rights were not established in the original research and require review of its current terms. The entry plan provides in-app generation, while branding and actual custom-template entitlements vary by tier.

Pitch

Pitch is a collaborative browser-based presentation platform with AI drafting, custom templates and engagement analytics, plus PowerPoint export on paid tiers.

Pitch offers a free plan with a one-time AI credit allowance and paid tiers with different export, collaboration, and engagement features. Prices vary by tier, billing cycle, currency, and account configuration. The comparison uses US-dollar pricing where quoted; consult localized pricing for the actual plan, seats, and recurring credit allowance.

Engagement links are a useful part of Pitch’s collaboration workflow. Knowing which slide a prospect lingered on, and which they skipped, is sales intelligence rather than a design feature. For a team that presents repeatedly to real buyers, that is worth more than another AI layout engine.

Brand handling is strong on the free tier, which is rare. Custom templates are available on Free; custom fonts and video-upload entitlements should be checked for the selected paid plan.

The limitation is the one both roundups converge on. One tester puts it plainly: PDF and PPTX exports are “just adequate,” with limited customisation options. Pitch is a browser tool that also has a desktop app, and the compromise shows most in the exported file. If your deck’s final destination is a PowerPoint screen at a client’s office, test the export before you commit a quarter to it.

Canva Presentations

Canva Presentations is Canva’s slide editor with Magic Studio AI, brand kits and an enormous asset library, aimed at marketing teams who already live in Canva for everything else.

Canva’s pricing page lists a free plan and Pro at US$144/year for one person in the cited US configuration. Free provides limited access to supported AI features, with allowances depending on the tool and operation. The page describes up to 20 uses for certain Standard and Premium AI tools; advanced capabilities have separate availability and usage limits. Confirm the required Brand Kit, assets, and AI allowances rather than treating every operation as one credit.

Note the free-tier limit carefully: one Brand Kit with three colours is not a brand system, it is a starting point. Teams get real brand control at Pro.

Canva’s asset licensing requires separate review because the Content License Agreement is explicit. Free Content carries a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence. Pro Content is a “One Design Use License” - you may use that specific piece in a single Canva Design, and each export of a new design needs a new licence, which subscribers get automatically. AI-Generated Content is treated identically to any other content and is labelled as AI-generated in the source information. Client work is permitted under section 4A with a written agreement, transferring to a single client only.

Two clauses deserve a sales team’s attention. Branded Content and Education Content are personal-use and non-commercial respectively, so a striking template can carry commercial restrictions that the thumbnail never shows. And Canva is explicit that releases generally are not obtained for Free Content and that you are solely responsible for determining whether a release is required. Canva’s Content License Agreement generally prohibits using licensed Canva Content for machine-learning or AI purposes, subject to rights separately available under applicable third-party licenses. This is not a blanket prohibition on using independently created slides, text, or original business assets in an AI workflow. A subscription does not supply unrestricted commercial rights to every template asset.

The limitation: Canva’s AI writes decks competently and designs them as Canva templates, which means a certain house look that is instantly recognisable as Canva if you have seen enough of them.

Beautiful.ai

Beautiful.ai is a layout engine rather than a writing engine, where Smart Slides automatically realign, resize and restyle content as you edit instead of asking you to nudge text boxes.

Beautiful.ai is the oldest idea here and still the most distinctive. Its Smart Slides are described by the company as intelligent layouts that realign, resize and animate content automatically, drawn from more than 300 designer-quality layouts covering data, comparisons, quotes, timelines, image grids and more. Themes apply your brand fonts, colours and logos across every slide.

Beautiful.ai Pro costs US$14.50/month billed annually. The Team card advertises US$40/month annually or US$50/month on monthly billing for up to three users. Introductory and FAQ text instead describes per-user pricing, so the page is inconsistent. Confirm the final seat price and additional-user charges at checkout. The plans advertise a 14-day trial and PowerPoint import/export; Team adds collaboration, a shared library, branded themes, and engagement analytics.

Official vendor pricing takes priority over third-party estimates, but conflicting language on the vendor’s own page must be resolved at checkout.

Both import and export to PowerPoint is a real differentiator - Beautiful.ai is one of very few tools on this list that is a genuine two-way interchange format for Office, rather than either a native Office add-in or a web app that exports one way.

Brand handling is strong, with custom branded themes and a centralised library on Team. That is the option for teams where design consistency is non-negotiable and there is no dedicated designer.

Beautiful.ai’s Smart Slides automate layout within supported designs. Export quality and editability should be evaluated on representative slides, and the Team-page inconsistency prevents a confident per-user cost ranking. The vendor’s speed claims are promotional claims, not independent results.

Presentations.AI

Presentations.AI is a credit-based generator that produces standard PowerPoint files, with cheap entry pricing and a large credit ceiling for heavy users.

Presentations.AI provides a free Starter plan and Pro advertised at US$20/month billed annually. Gold varies across accessible pricing-page versions: US$50/month with 25,000 credits versus US$100/month with 50,000 credits. The evidence does not establish whether this reflects a change, regional variant, or experiment. The website warns that prices can vary by country; confirm the applicable billing term, credit allocation, and checkout price.

That structure makes the real cost model obvious, and it is credits, not seats. If you regenerate a deck repeatedly while arguing with it, credits burn fast and the $20 tier stops being cheap. Budget for iteration, not for seats.

Brand customisation is a Pro feature, which means the free tier is for individuals and the paid tier is for anything with a house style. High-quality PowerPoint export being Pro-only is also worth noting, because the free tier’s “standard quality” is exactly the fidelity complaint that drives people off these tools.

The limitation is thinness. It is a generator with a good price, not a collaboration platform - no equivalent of Pitch’s engagement links, no equivalent of Plus AI’s template import. Choose it when the brief requires a draft deck by Friday and the answer needs to be a .pptx.

Decktopus

Decktopus is a sales-and-startup-focused generator that builds a deck from a prompt or document and can construct a Brand Kit directly from your website URL.

Decktopus is pitched hardest at exactly the use case in this article: sales decks and startup pitches. Its pricing page describes a “Studio” generation mode and a “Loop” editing mode, and the standout differentiator is that the Brand Kit can be generated automatically from a website URL - logo, colours, fonts pulled from your site without manual setup.

That is genuinely clever for the target user. A founder who has a website but no brand document gets on-brand output without briefing anyone.

Export targets are broad: PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, PNG, JPEG and WebP. The page also states plainly that Decktopus does not train its models on your data, which is the correct answer to the question a procurement team will ask first.

Decktopus Pro is advertised at US$9.99/month billed annually, equivalent to US$119.88/year. Monthly billing costs US$24.99, and a three-month option is US$19.99/month. Pro includes 750 monthly AI credits, approximately 150 slides according to the vendor, supported exports, and Loop presentation-practice functionality. Higher-tier allowances and seats should be confirmed separately.

The limitation is the same category as Presentations.AI’s - strong generation, thin collaboration. And a brand kit scraped from a URL is only as good as the website it scraped.

What AI actually automates - and what it does not

AI presentation generators can accelerate first-draft outlines, slide content, and templated layouts. Quality depends on the prompt, supporting material, subject complexity, brand constraints, and model capabilities. Human review remains necessary for factual accuracy, narrative coherence, and design quality.

Branding support ranges from themes and logos to actual corporate templates on selected enterprise plans. Those capabilities should be evaluated separately. AI tools may suggest shortening, consolidating, or restructuring content, but deciding which slides to retain requires editorial judgment.

Export fidelity, charts and accessibility

Some vendor-published comparative reviews report formatting changes when browser-based generators export to PowerPoint. The extent varies by tool, slide complexity, fonts, and format. Pi and Perceptis have commercial interests; their observations do not establish an independent category-wide benchmark. Test representative exports on the environment where they will be presented.

Copilot authors native PowerPoint files. Plus AI works within the selected host application. Gemini authors Google Slides; producing PowerPoint still involves conversion. Native authoring avoids some conversion steps, but does not guarantee compatibility or flawless design. Check chart values and their source data separately from visual polish.

WCAG 2.2 provides an accessibility framework for web content. It was first a W3C Recommendation in October 2023; the linked version is dated December 12, 2024. Text alternatives, meaningful reading sequence, contrast, and accessible controls are relevant principles for digital presentations. PowerPoint and exported PDFs additionally require appropriate document-level checks, including reading order, slide titles, tags where applicable, and built-in accessibility checkers.

Formal accessibility conformance was not independently established for these products. Evaluate the actual presentation and export rather than assuming generated output is accessible.

Who should still hire a designer

Direct answer: if the deck is your primary sales asset and it carries your brand, a designer is still worth it. The AI tools have not replaced design judgement; they have replaced slide production.

The economics make this clearer than the technology. Beautiful.ai frames the real cost neatly: general tools like Microsoft 365 and Canva cost less per seat, but they leave slide design to your team, so the hours spent formatting are part of the real price. The AI deck builders are not competing on price with a designer. They are competing on the number of hours between a blank page and something presentable.

Buy a designer when any of these are true:

  • You are raising money or pitching a named strategic partner. These decks get scrutinised by people who notice. Nothing generic survives that room.
  • Presentation quality materially affects sales or fundraising. Evaluate design costs against the value and frequency of the presentations rather than a fixed audience-count threshold.
  • Your brand has genuine customisation - bespoke grids, custom illustration, a typographic system - because that is precisely where AI templating is weakest.
  • Accessibility is contractual. With no verified conformance claim from any of the nine tools, human checking is not optional.

Internal or recurring decks may need only a maintained template and human content review. More design support may still be appropriate where complexity, branding, or accessibility requires it.

The honest verdict

Gamma is a strong option for rapid drafting, subject to export and brand requirements. Copilot suits native PowerPoint workflows when the qualifying licenses are available; Gemini suits Google Slides workflows, with conversion checks for PowerPoint delivery.

Plus AI Team supports brand customization; organizations requiring their actual slide masters or presentation templates should evaluate Enterprise. Compare Beautiful.ai’s checkout terms and Decktopus’s billing options before making price-based decisions.

Tome Slides shut down on April 30, 2025 and should be excluded from current software recommendations. Choose among the active products using representative content, required output formats, collaboration needs, and licensing conditions.
