GEO tools are software that repeatedly runs your buying prompts through AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews, then reports whether your brand was mentioned, cited or left out.
Quick answer
- Documented methods: Ahrefs offers Custom Prompt Tracking from US$50/month for 2,500 checks; AI Visibility Index access starts separately at US$199/month per index in US pricing.
- Focused entry monitoring: Otterly.AI Lite costs US$29/month with 15 prompts; coverage and add-ons determine the complete monitoring scope.
- Monitoring and audits: Scrunch Starter costs US$250/month annually or US$300 monthly, with 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts, and three seats. Enterprise is custom-priced.
- Interpretation: Tools can measure answer positions and sampled mention rates, but those positions vary and are not fixed search rankings.
Evaluation methodology
This comparison prioritises 13 platforms with identifiable AI-search tracking, accessible product information, and documented pricing or trial options. It uses source-based research, not hands-on testing or an independently measured leaderboard.
Official pricing is preferred. Third-party estimates are identified, including Peec and Semrush, and require confirmation before purchase. The supplied audit is supplemented by checks of key pages on October 11, 2026.
Criteria include coverage, prompt selection, frequency, repeated sampling, interface, locale, citation evidence, allowances, add-ons, exports, and workflow fit. Unique prompts, checks, credits, executions, and responses are different units. Daily collection supports longitudinal monitoring without establishing within-day variability.

The 13 tools, reviewed
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs offers custom tracking and a separately priced AI Visibility Index.
Official documentation lists custom tracking from US$50/month for 2,500 checks, single-index access from US$199/month, and all-platform access at US$699/month. Paid Ahrefs plans include limited custom checks; broader index access is different.
Its methodology describes collection conditions. Anonymous web sessions without history provide standardised samples, not every customer’s personalised experience. Claude custom tracking uses an API and consumes eight checks per update; conditions differ by surface.
Confirm scheduling and consumption for the desired questions. Ahrefs is not the only vendor publishing sampling information.
Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI offers a US$29/month Lite plan with 15 prompts for focused monitoring.
Fifteen prompts can track a narrow group of questions over time, but do not represent every category or audience. Coverage and frequency determine how broadly results can be interpreted.
What makes it worth listing is honesty about scope. It monitors ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot on the base plans, with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini sold as add-ons, and tracks daily. Plans step up to $189/month for 100 prompts and $489/month for 400, with enterprise quoted separately. A seven-day free trial is available.
The limitation: fifteen prompts provide narrow coverage. They can support trends within that defined set, but cannot represent all questions or audiences. Evaluate the trial against the intended monitoring scope.
LLMrefs
LLMrefs is an AI-search analytics platform that takes your existing SEO keyword list and reports how those keywords perform across ten answer engines.
The positioning is the interesting part. Where most GEO tools ask you to invent prompts, LLMrefs lets you import keywords you already rank for and generates fan-out prompts from real conversations. Geo-targeting spans 50+ countries and 20+ languages, projects and seats are unlimited, and every engine is included at no extra cost - ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI and DeepSeek.
LLMrefs says it aggregates and weights generated-prompt results to improve reliability. The cited public documentation does not provide enough detail to independently assess its statistical-significance claim.
Pricing is $79/month for 500 tracked prompts with a seven-day free trial and no card required, CSV export and API access included. The limitation is that the weekly update cadence is coarse next to daily trackers, and the statistical-significance language is doing a lot of work without a paper behind it.
Writesonic
Writesonic bundles AI visibility tracking with AI crawler diagnostics and content generation, aimed at teams who want monitoring and production in one tool.
It is an AI content company that bolted tracking on, which is why it shows up here rather than in a pure-monitoring list. The pricing page runs $79/month Starter, $199 Basic and $399 Growth when billed annually, with Enterprise quoted. Self-serve tiers track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews; the advertised eight-platform figure applies to Enterprise.
Crawler access is one diagnostic factor. Mentions can come from third-party pages, so investigate indexing, external citations, prompt selection, and platform changes alongside bot restrictions. Blocking a crawler does not automatically lower mentions across all systems.
The limitation is the obvious one. This is a content-generation product with a monitoring module, not a measurement-first tool, and the prompt allowances on cheap tiers are modest. Treat the tracking as a useful by-product, not a replacement for a dedicated tracker.
Nightwatch
Nightwatch combines conventional rank tracking with AI visibility and citation monitoring.
Nightwatch AI Tracking links citations with keyword positions for investigation. Daily checks and source-URL reports can show associations; conventional rankings do not establish the sole cause of an AI citation.
Pricing runs €79/month Starter with 50 AI prompts and 1,500 AI answers per month across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overviews, then €159 Professional and €399 Agency, with a 14-day free trial. Unlimited seats and no per-user fees make it unusually agency-friendly.
Traditional rankings and AI citations are different observations. Correlation may guide investigation but does not establish causes or replace direct monitoring; agency percentages are not universal industry rates.
Rankability
Rankability offers agency-oriented tracking with client portals and eleven listed platforms, subject to plan and add-on limits.
It supports eleven platforms - ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Brave AI, DeepSeek and Meta AI - with availability depending on plan and add-on. Pricing is $97, $297 and $497 monthly, or $970, $2,970 and $4,970 annually, covering 100, 300 and 500 tracked AI queries with daily runs.
The agency features are the real differentiator. Read-only client access through a portal or share link, revocable links that open without a Rankability sign-in, and control over which report sections appear. Its product page shows Panasonic, La-Z-Boy and Honeywell among the brands served, and it publishes a named G2 review from agency owner Aaron Traub.
Confirm repetitions, frequency, interface, locale, and available raw answers. Workflow features do not by themselves establish sampling reliability.
Peec AI
Peec AI is a Berlin-based tracker built around daily runs across a pool of seven engines, with unlimited seats on every tier.
Peec reports one execution per prompt and selected model every 24 hours. This supports longitudinal monitoring, but cannot capture full within-day variability. Interpret trends with the schedule and prompt coverage in mind.
The pricing is where Peec gets awkward. The vendor’s own pricing page lists tier names and a feature grid but loads the numbers client-side, so independent guides fill the gap. Checked August 4, 2026, those guides put Starter at $95/month for 50 prompts and 1 project, Pro at $245 for 150 prompts and 2 projects, and Advanced at $495 for 350 prompts, 5 projects, multi-country analytics and a Looker Studio connector. The same guides note the ladder shifted during 2026 and that Peec quotes euros to European buyers, so confirm your region before budgeting.
The real trap is the engine add-on. Every self-serve tier includes three engines out of a pool of ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Perplexity, Gemini and Grok. Extra engines cost $35, $85 or $165 per month per model depending on tier, which can push a five-engine Pro setup 69% above its sticker price. Claude and GPT-5 Search tracking are reserved for the custom-priced Enterprise tier.
Semrush
Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit adds AI mention, citation and share-of-voice tracking inside the SEO suite you probably already pay for.
The suite tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Perplexity and DeepSeek against a database Backlinko reported at 317 million-plus AI queries in August 2025. The product page describes the feature set well: visibility and share of voice, competitor gap analysis, prompt research drawn from real audience conversations, brand sentiment tracking and content optimisation for AI readability.
Third parties report a US$99/month AI Visibility figure. Confirm the current package, domain allowance, and required suite subscription with Semrush.
The cited official material does not establish that reported package and allowance. Confirm current pricing and attribution-feature availability; roadmap descriptions do not prove availability.
SE Ranking
SE Ranking includes AI tracking in Core and offers an optional AI Search add-on.
Core costs US$129/month with monthly billing and includes 100 daily tracked prompts. The optional AI Search add-on is US$89/month with monthly billing, providing additional capacity and research.
Confirm models, allowances, API access, and trial limits. Cost-effectiveness depends on whether SEO research, auditing, and reporting are also needed; the add-on is not mandatory for everyone.
Scrunch AI
Scrunch combines monitoring, citations, audits, and its Agent Experience Platform.
Starter costs US$250/month annually or US$300 monthly, with 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts, three seats, and five audits. Growth costs US$417/month annually or US$500 monthly, with 700 custom prompts, 2,500 industry prompts, five seats, and ten audits. Enterprise is custom-priced.
The current page does not establish fixed independent repetitions per prompt. Confirm executions per prompt, model, location, persona, and period. Dividing aggregate responses by prompt count would not establish equal sampling.
AXP and vendor case studies describe interventions and customer outcomes, not guaranteed uplift for every deployment.
Goodie AI
Goodie AI is a closed-loop answer engine optimization platform that pairs daily monitoring with a content studio and GA revenue attribution.
Goodie Core costs US$399/month with 120 prompts. Confirm model coverage, regions, languages, seats, and the chosen package.
A useful independent check: StoreCited observed the pricing page on July 13, 2026 and saw the entry tier named “Explorer” at the same $399/month, but with 100 prompts, 3,000 AI responses per month, three engines and a 30-day guarantee. The tier was renamed and the allowances changed. That is a normal commercial move and a fair warning that Goodie’s published numbers move.
The limitation is the one StoreCited names best: “dashboard panels are configured samples, not every AI answer.” Goodie also lists GA revenue attribution, which is a correlation view, not proof of causation. For teams that want a monitoring-to-content loop in one purchase it is genuinely useful; for anyone wanting clean measurement, the overlap between its monitoring and content-generation modules makes the signal harder to isolate.
Evertune
Evertune offers Starter and Pro plans using prompt credits.
Starter starts at US$60/month annually with 5,000 monthly prompt credits and limited models. Pro starts at US$800/month annually with 100,000 credits, broader coverage, analytics, and content features.
The detailed comparison describes up to 100 samples per prompt on Pro and Enterprise. Credits are not unique questions; usage depends on prompts, models, and frequency. The live pages offer different detail, so confirm the purchased configuration.
Large allowances do not establish statistical precision, but it is incorrect to claim Evertune has no published sampling method.
Profound
Profound offers enterprise tracking and a limited public trial.
The trial includes 50 prompts daily for seven days across ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI Overviews. Users receive a recommended set and cannot customise trial prompts. Enterprise allows customisation with negotiated pricing.
A fixed set may not match evaluation questions. Absence of public self-serve pricing does not prove no other paid arrangements exist.
Why every “rank” in this category is an estimate
GEO tools measure presence, positions, citations, and sampled frequency. Answer positions vary and are not fixed conventional search rankings.
SparkToro’s January 27, 2026 study involved 600 volunteers, 12 prompts, and 2,961 combined runs. It estimated identical lists at less than one in 100 comparisons and identical ordering at roughly one in 1,000. These are estimates from observed data, not literal hundred-thousand- or million-run experiments.
Repeated mention frequency can reveal meaningful patterns despite changing order. Use adequate sampling and comparable conditions; avoid isolated score conclusions or a universal four-week threshold.
How to tell a real measurement from a marketing number
Determine whether allowances count unique questions, credits, model executions, or answers. Confirm repetitions per prompt, model, locale, and period; totals do not establish equal sampling.
Ask whether collection uses a browser or API, with which account, model, history, and personalisation. Anonymous sessions are standardised samples. Record missing runs and platform changes.
Inspect raw answers, URLs, detection errors, aggregation, and hallucinated links. Ahrefs, Peec, and Evertune publish different collection details; none should be assumed uniquely transparent.
Selected vendor and agency studies report variation in detection, citations, and freshness. Their percentages are not universal benchmarks. Review datasets, periods, definitions, and limitations before using them for purchasing decisions.
What to actually do with the data
Track mentions and citations separately. A mention without a first-party link may indicate a content opportunity, but does not reveal what the model trusts or why another source was selected.
Review recurring sources for accuracy, coverage, and freshness. Update stale content when needed rather than assuming a universal quarterly schedule.
Keep prompts and collection conditions consistent, record model changes, and compare multiple periods with sufficient samples. Appropriate periods depend on frequency, variability, and change size.
Goodie’s revenue-attribution features connect AI-search activity with website and conversion data through estimated or modelled associations, not proof that a specific mention caused a sale.
Who should skip this category entirely
Buy none of these tools if any of four things is true about you.
Your buyers do not use AI to research. If you sell to a local HVAC company whose entire pipeline comes from Google Business Profile and word of mouth, a GEO subscription is a rounding error against your actual lead sources. Check before you buy.
You cannot act on the output. G2 interviewed 39 B2B software marketers for its 2026 report and found the loudest, most consistent frustration was attribution - marketers could see AI influencing pipeline but could not prove it. If nobody on your team owns the fixes, a dashboard just generates guilt.
You need one number for the board. There is no single AI visibility KPI that survives contact with reality. If your success metric is a single aggregate visibility score, you will be asked to defend a metric that is an average of samples, and you will not enjoy it.
You sell something the models cannot describe. If your product has no clean public description, no comparison pages and no third-party coverage, no tool in this list will fix that. Tracking absence is just measuring the hole.
Strong SEO does not automatically transfer to AI visibility. Defined manual spot checks can assess whether a tracker adds useful coverage, but one snapshot cannot estimate every platform or audience.
Verdict
Choose based on buyer questions, model and regional coverage, collection method, sampling budget, and reporting. Otterly offers focused entry monitoring; Evertune has a US$60/month annual Starter; Scrunch Starter includes 350 custom prompts. Ahrefs custom checks and index access are separate purchases; SE Ranking includes tracking before its optional add-on.
Positions and mention rates can be useful within a defined sample. Retain raw evidence and avoid treating attribution as causal proof or scores as fixed search rankings.
