What Cursor is
Cursor is the AI code editor from Anysphere, Inc., founded in 2022 in San Francisco by MIT classmates Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Aman Sanger, and Arvid Lunnemark. Built as a fork of VS Code, it layers Cursor Tab autocomplete, the Composer 2.5 model, codebase chat, and Agent mode on top of a multi-model backend. Cursor has since been acquired by SpaceX: Cursor's own blog announced on August 14, 2026 that it is 'now a part of SpaceX', completing an acquisition that began with an April 2026 partnership with SpaceXAI to accelerate model training. Cursor cites access to the world's largest GPU fleet and co-development of Grok 4.6 as early results of the combination.
Funding snapshot
Cursor raised a $900M Series C led by Thrive Capital on June 5, 2025, then a $2.3B Series D co-led by Accel and Coatue on November 13, 2025 at a $29.3B valuation (Google and Nvidia participated). On April 21, 2026 SpaceXAI disclosed a partnership and a right to acquire Cursor; SpaceX exercised that right on June 16, 2026 in an all-stock deal for parent Anysphere at an implied $60B equity value, and Cursor's blog confirmed on August 14, 2026 that 'Cursor has officially been acquired by SpaceX'. Cursor's press page cites recurring revenue doubling to $2B for the three months to March 2026, with revenue since reported around $3B annualised.
